WHAT IS USER EXPERIENCE DESIGN?

User Experience Design, also known as UX Design, currently has many definitions. It can, and does, include such roles as Interaction Design, Information Architecture and User Research.

The Broad Definition:
User experience design is the creation and synchronization of the elements that affect users' experience with a particular company, with the intent of influencing their perceptions and behavior.

User Experience (abbreviated: UX) is the quality of experience a person has when interacting with a specific design. This can range from a specific artifact, such as a cup, toy or website, up to larger, integrated experiences such as a museum or an airport.

Requirements Gathering

Requirements are statements defining what the site or application needs to do, ideally, a business requirement.

These requirements
- Provide insights into the overall need that must be addressed
- Represents and consolidates needs presented by different stakeholders
- Give direction for design, without being too specific about how it will be accomplished

Example:
Client:

"Customers need to track their orders online."

Me:

"Why is it important to track orders online? For example, is it to cut down the number of calls to customer service."?

"Does the company currently have the capability to track packages online.? If not, new requirements will need to be captured for the tracking features, or the company may need to partner with a third party supplier."

"How accurate does the tracking need to be.? Would an email notification be adequate? Were you thinking about UPS tracking? or GPS tracking with real-time location of package?"

As you can see from the above example, there's a significance difference in user experience and scope!
